Tuesdays in Blue Island

The Blue Cap Food Pantry

Every Tuesday, with volunteers working 9am to 2pm, Blue Cap's pantry hands out food and household supplies to neighbours in Blue Island and nearby communities.

Every Tuesday

Blue Cap's food pantry runs on Tuesdays, and the volunteers who staff it work from 9am to 2pm. It is one of the few parts of Blue Cap that any neighbour can walk into, whether or not anyone in the family receives services here.

Distribution times can shift from week to week, so call the main office at (708) 389-6578 before you come by. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, and the people answering the phone can tell you what to expect on the day and which door to use at Broadway.

Neighbors in Blue Island and the towns around it

The pantry serves Blue Island and the communities nearby. Google reviewers describe more than groceries: they mention household supplies such as masks, toothbrushes and toothpaste handed out alongside the food, and a staff they call kind and quick.

It sits beside the day programs, supportive living and home-based services Blue Cap has offered people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1967. The same building, the same staff, and the same idea from Blue Cap's mission: support people to enjoy their life to the fullest, starting with what is on the table.

Spend a Tuesday as a volunteer

Volunteers staff the pantry on Tuesdays between 9am and 2pm. To sign up, contact Marge Pyzik, Director of Adult Services, at (708) 389-6578 ext. 102 or MargeP@blue-cap.org. Companies can bring a team through Blue Cap's Lend a Hand volunteer day, where staff volunteer while being paid.

If you would rather give food, call the main office at (708) 389-6578 to arrange a food donation. Community groups also run their own benefits for the pantry; the Development Office at (708) 389-8137 ext. 801 can help you plan one.

Blue Cap holds a 4.5 rating from 31 Google reviews. Call (708) 389-6578 for the pantry's current Tuesday times.

What two Google reviewers wrote about the pantry

The amount of food they give you, the supplies they give you (masks, tooth brush, tooth paste etc) are all really amazing things to help families in need. Such a kind staff that works there and very fast as well. Really appreciate the people who donate or volunteer. They do an amazing job helping their community
