Blue Cap has kept a place on Broadway since 1967

Enriching lives for people with intellectual disabilities: that is how Blue Cap describes its work, and it has been doing it in Blue Island for more than half a century.

Blue Cap is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Blue Island that offers supports and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, in programs tailored to each individual through all stages of life. Every program starts from the person: their skills, their goals and what they want the day to hold.

A family that wants to see it first can call the office and schedule a tour. Walk the building, meet the people, and then decide whether Blue Cap is the place.

The mission, as Blue Cap states it

Blue Cap's Mission is to support people with intellectual disabilities to enjoy their life to the fullest.

The goal Blue Cap has set

“Blue Cap’s Vision is that 75% of people served at Blue Cap will be satisfied with family connections, social activities, and their work/volunteer life by June 2027.”

That is Blue Cap’s stated target for June 2027, set down in its own words.

From the Parent Association to Family & Friends

In the 1970s, families who wanted to support activities for their children receiving services formed what was then called the Parent Association. It kept growing. Today it is the Family & Friends Association: parents, siblings, extended families and friends. The money it raises goes into a restricted Activity Fund, so people can take part in community activities based on their own interests.

There is room in it for you too. See how to get involved, or read about ways to give.
