Community Day Services, also called Life Enrichment

Life Enrichment for adults: community life, education, job training, volunteer and employment opportunities, with a Blended Day where each person chooses what the day holds.

A day that stays open until the person chooses

At Blue Cap, Life Enrichment offers adults individualized support including community life, education, job training, volunteer and employment opportunities.

Participation in multiple facets of Life Enrichment is part of what Blue Cap calls a Blended Day: an approach to creating an open environment where people can choose which activities they would like to do for the day.

Nobody is slotted into a single track. The choosing is the point.

A Person-Centered Plan, written with the person

Everyone also participates in the development of their own Person-Centered Plan (PCP) that reflects her or his needs, dreams and desires. Support services are then developed to fulfill those requests.

Daily activities are designed to address skills and personal goals for each individual participant, so two people in the same building can have two very different days.

Where a day can lead

Whether a person's goal is to find a job, learn a new skill, or be an integral part of the community, Blue Cap helps them achieve and exceed it. Community life, education, job training, volunteer work and employment are all part of the same program.

Blue Cap has supported people with intellectual disabilities in Blue Island since 1967. Marge Pyzik, Director of Adult Services, answers questions about day services at (708) 389-6578 ext. 102.

One Blended Day, two halves

In Blue Cap's own example, someone can spend half a day volunteering and the other half in recreational activities.

Half a day volunteering

Giving time to the community is one of the opportunities woven into Life Enrichment.

Half a day in recreational activities

The other half is chosen too, from the activities open that day.

What every component stands on

Each component of the Life Enrichment Program emphasizes five things, whichever mix of activities a person picks.

  • Individual empowerment
  • Community integration
  • Job training
  • Choice
  • Peer support

Day services are for adults. Before they start there are a few steps, beginning with the Illinois PUNS database; they are laid out on how to obtain services. To see the rooms first, call (708) 389-6578 and schedule a tour.
